Jeff Yong is a Malaysia-born cinematographer currently based in Singapore. He fell in love with stories at a young age, spending hours watching his mother’s favourite Bollywood films — full of theatrical dance, music, and vibrant performances — on the TV at the salon where she worked. It was there that he asked for his first camera: a toy DIY twin-lens reflex. From the moment he held it, he knew he loved the craft of making images.
Jeff was selected to attend the Asian Film Academy in 2019. His films have screened at major festivals such as the Figari International Short Film Fest, Busan International Film Festival and Singapore International Film Festival. His short film Sometimes We Forget (2021) won Best Impact Film at the Singapore Mental Health Film Festival. The Prism (2021) received Best Cinematography at the Falcon International Film Festival London (November 2021). His short film Singapore Veal (2021) was officially selected for the Singapore International Film Festival 2022. He also took part in Terre di Cinema 2023, an intensive training programme certified by Kodak to shoot a short film on 35mm motion picture film. In 2023, he was among the first cinematographers featured in Singapore IMDA’s virtual production case studies, expanding his skills to integrate cutting-edge technology into future visual storytelling.
In 2025, Jeff participated Natasha Braier ASC ADF Live Mentorship, continuing to refine his craft under the guidance of an acclaimed cinematographer. He is always looking to grow, experiment, and collaborate with like-minded creatives to tell stories through his lens.
